Stop drug testing on children!The European Commission has proposed legislation supposedly safeguarding the health of European children by ... requiring pharmaceutical companies to test all drugs approved for use by children on children. You might think the drug companies would protest being subjected to another requirement, but actually, they lobbied for this themselves and are thrilled, not in the least because the EU will be paying them millions of euros to carry out this pernicious research. Drug testing on children has been and still is happening in the US, in Europe, and in Third World countries. Rather than require and fund it, the EU should prohibit it. It is true that drugs not tested on children are not safe for children, but it is immoral to safeguard the health of one group of children at the expense of another. Most drug testing is fraught with fraud anyway, and we don't really need the drugs that will be tested. This new impetus from the EU will stimulate the development and aggressive marketing of even more harmful drugs for children. Real medicines like antibiotics and insulin don't need to be tested on children, because there is already half a century of experience with them. In the US, government support for drug testing has led to children being subjected to experimentation with drugs for conditions that do not occur in childhood. Do we want this in the EU too? Please, please, please, sign our petition, and do anything else you can to help us fight this frightful law, being proposed on soil soaked with the blood of thousands of children who were victims of medical experimentation during the nazi regime.
